I love the inspiration photo from the Papertrey Ink July Blog Hop. It is just such a sweet picture. Drawing inspiration from the bouquet, here is my take:

Not sure if I layered the flowers a little too low as it doesn't show much of the vase. Anyway, I dry embossed the vase and coated it with glossy accents to give it some shine. The card base was also dry embossed.

SAF Ribbon Techniques Challenge - Birthday Wishes

This challenge involves using ribbon. The PTI design team showed some amazing ways to use ribbons that definitely didn't cross my mind. I don't have much ribbons in my stash so made do with whatever I had on hand. I liked Erin Lincoln's technique and I decided to create my version.

I am very bad at ribbon tying and Dawn actually showed a tutorial on that and I just had to try tying.

PTI SAF Make-n-Take - Celebrate Today

I was very happy to have received my PTI July purchases on Friday, a day before the Stamp-a-faire. Didn't expect to receive my order this quick this month as it usually takes longer. I don't have the Natural Beauties stamp set yet so I decided to use my new stamp set The Sweet Life. This is my current favorite and will be one of my most used stamp set. Simply LOVE the dimensional look. I'm still trying to get the hang of using this stamp especially the 3rd step stamping.

PTI June Blog Hop - Happy Birthday

It's been some time since I participated in PTI's blog hop and did cards. I've been getting on with my scrapbooking so it's this or that.

I thought the colors in the inspiration photo was very unique. It is a color combo that I would never have put together. Here is my take:

I don't have much ribbon in my stash. Tried misting but the color mist I had was not a match. So I decided to use a neutral color trim.

I attempted another interactive card and this time I did one with a track. Since I didn't have foam tape, I had to use so much of my pop dots :( Not liking that part.

It was a fun attempt although a little time consuming. With the help of the dies that PTI is offering, these cards will be completed in a flash. I'll need to replenish my supplies too.

Papertrey Ink 5th Anniversary Day 2 - Wishing You

Day 2 focuses on Papertrey Ink designers. There are some designers whom I don't know and I can't wait to see their designs this year. There are a few stamp sets that I owned designed by these various ladies that are my favorite. My top favorite is Peaceful Garden by Lisa Johnson. This is one stamp set that I use most  often too. I really love the peaceful feel that the images from the stamp set gives and when you convey that to your card.

Today's challenge is to use a digital image designed by the 2012 PTI designers and incorporate them into our cards.

My first card uses an image designed by Dawn McVey and she is one of my favorite designers:

The challenges from this anniversary festivities are giving me opportunities to use some of my untouched stamp sets and seldom used colors. This is one of them.

Papertrey Ink 5th Anniversary Day 1 - Celebrate Today

I managed to work on another card and this time, I took inspiration from Lisa Johnson's favorite card.

Here is my take:

I used Lace Boutique and white embossed. Either I chose the wrong stamp set or I should work with a finer embossing powder. It didn't show off the details of the lace and instead made the flowers look as if they were silhouettes. Anyway it's a good thing most of it is being covered up by my Mat Stack 4 die cut.

Papertrey Ink 5th Anniversary Day 1 - Happy Birthday

Today is the 1st Day of Papertrey Ink 5th Anniversary celebration. It's also my first time joining in on the festivities. I made my first order from Papertrey Ink in May 2011 and it's one of my favorite companies to date. I just love all the works from every one on the design team. I also find that it's really sweet to be able to know them better through their personal blogs, etc.

Anyway on to today's challenge. I was inspired by Dawn McVey's favorite card.

I received my Rosie Posie stamp set recently. I loved it the moment I saw it in the release. It's definitely in my favorites list. Mat Stack 4 (which is the only Mat Stack I own out of the entire collection) is also in my favorites list. I didn't have a Birthday sentiment that fit in the die cut so had to use one from Hero Arts.

C&S Week 1 Card 6 - Happy Birthday To You

Today's class is on inspirations and creating cards that was inspired by someone or from a previous card made. 2 fantastic videos were shown with techniques and tips.

I took a bit more time today fiddling around with my stamp sets. I was trying to find ways to use certain stamps and I gave up in the end. Just couldn't get going. Saw a stamp set from PaperTrey Inc which was not inked and decided to have a go.

Card 23 - Happy Birthday

My sister's birthday is just a day after my mum's. We have totally different styles. I'm more of a clean and simple while she is the elaborated, frills & layers type so it was a challenge thinking how to approach the card I wanted to do for her. Well I'll definitely look for more inspiration from the other crafters online and explore further through trial and error.

Card 22 - Happy Birthday

I've been on a hiatus. Well hb has been on the morning shift so I don't usually craft since he'll be using the area to watch tv and play on his playstation. I'll have to find some way around that for the subsequent weeks since I've signed up for the Holiday Card Boot Camp. I'm excited for the class to start and to learn more.

Well my mum's birthday is around the corner and here is a card I made for her. I bought this stamp the moment I saw a card done by Jennifer McGuire. However I didn't really make any card with it till now. I used the technique shown on Jennifer McGuire's blog using distress inks and liquid pearls. My mum's favorite color is purple so I based the card around those shades.

Card 16 - Happy Birthday

I did a card for my girlfriend's birthday. Felt weird to get my hands on crafting after more than a month's break.

I wanted to do something more cheery and fun as she was also sick and was not going to be out celebrating.

I accidentally deleted the other photos of this card without realizing that the angle of this photo made the presents look a little lopsided and unbalanced.

Happy that I'm finally able to get using my cuttlebug folder and stamp sets that I had with me for a while. I added glossy accent to the balloons as a finishing touch.

SCC Week 3 Card 2 - Sending You Birthday Wishes

Today is Technique Day with Jennifer McGuire. I'm always anticipating her videos or tutorials. They are always so interesting. Today's no exception featuring Finger-inky technique and zig-zag styled card.

Needless to say, I just had to try it out. It was a pretty fun process doing the card. However, I didn't have the right browns and the colors turned fall-ish as it dried (I think it's also partly the perfect pearls as I didn't realize it was so pink after mixing them together). I also didn't have the right background stamp, the right sentiment and the right perfect pearls to use but I think the card turned out alright for a first attempt at least.

Card Set-up:

1) Die-cut 2 shaped panels measuring 4 3/8" x 2 1/2" using watercolor paper and White card stock on the Silhouette machine (I don't have a shaped die)

2) Stamp floral stamp with versamark on watercolor panel and white embossed

3) Using my fingers, I inked the watercolor panel with Vintage Photo, Tea Dye, Fired Brick, each ink mixed with water

4) Added Blush perfect pearls around the embossed flower and set it aside to dry

5) Stamped music background stamp onto the insides of card base

6) Score card front at 2 1/8" and fold

7) Take watercolor panel and sponged edges with Chocolate Chip and adhere left side of the panel to card front

8) Line White panel and adhere on the inside of the card. Stamp sentiment

9) Trim a strip (approx 1/2") of White card stock, write in sentiment and adhere to card front

SCC Week 2 Card 2 - Happy Birthday To You

I definitely had a better time doing my card today. The only headache I had was choosing pattern papers to use. I try as much as possible to avoid using pattern papers as I just can't seem to know how to select them. Well I could have given those pattern papers too much of a thought but well I guess I'm still learning.

I actually broke out of my comfort zone today and used 2 pattern papers. I still don't have any ribbons so had to make do with what I had on hand for embellishments.

Card Set-up:

1) Stamp floral image 3 times and leaf image twice on white card stock. Colored them with aquarelles and cut them out for layering

2) Trim pattern papers, sponged edges with wild honey and adhered to card base

3) Trim a 1/2" strip of Terra-cotta tile card stock and adhere to card front

4) Stamp sentiment

5) Layered flower with pop dots, adhere leaves and flower to card front

6) Round right corners with corner chomper and sponged edges of card with wild honey and added 3 pearls as a finishing touch

SSC Week 1 Card 2 - Sending Birthday Wishes

Today's camp had a video tutorial by Jennifer McGuire. I didn't have the stuffs required to do a card using similar technique, I thought I still do a card using the color challenge and heat embossing.


I had an idea of what I wanted to do with the card but somehow ideas and execution are 2 complete separate matters. I still took a while at it but there was definitely much improvement with the time.

I started by scoring 2 lines on my white card base. Then I proceeded to trim the papers into strips (1 1/4x3 inch) in the different colors. Stamped the images with versamark and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. The strips of papers were initially each stamped with different floral images but I didn't really like how they turned out so I redid them.

Sponged the edges of the strips with white ink and I adhered them between the 2 scored lines that I made. As I had no ribbons on hand, I decided to wrap the card with white twine.  After tying the twine, I stamped my sentiment on a mini tag, sponged edges with tea dye distress ink (only brown ink I have) and adhered with pop dots. I finished up the card by adding a twine bow with glossy accent.

Talking about twines, I'm definitely going to check out other twines. I'm not sure if other twines are similar but the 'hair' from my roll of twine is always coming out even when I'm just trying to wrap round the card. As it is, I'm trying hard to have a tight pull on the twine and more hair comes when I trying to tie a knot and it sticks on my stamps, etc.

Card 1 - Thinking of You

For the past 6 months, besides actively reading blogs on scrapbooking & card making, I was also increasing my stamps collection. From zero stamp sets, I've owned quite a few now, mostly from Technique Tuesday by Ali Edwards, Lawn Fawn and now PaperTrey Ink. Although hubs knows about them, he doesn't know how much has been spent and I decide it shall remain this way :P

Anyway I was reading about the PaperTrey Ink bloghop and chanced upon Jess Larsen's blog. There was a video showcasing one of the cards she was doing using double embossing technique and was inspired to try making one of my own. I had gotten to know this technique slightly more than a couple months back through Britta Swiderski. Her blog has many tutorials on using distress inks. I only tried it now as I didn't have a stamp set that I felt was suitable for the technique.

OK, back on the card... This is technically my first card especially with distress inks. I thought I'll summarize what I did so that I can review & improve as I go along making more cards.

I started by blending spun sugar to the entire card. Heat set it and stamped the sentiment by HA & the medallion stamps  by PTI using versamark. Clear embossed the images and work victorian velvet in and adding dusty concord to around the edges of the card. Lastly, I flickered some water to finish the look.

This card is far from perfect but I do kinda like how it turned out.

P.S I don't have a craft room or a craft table so was working on my coffee table in the living room.
